Goodbye, Ms. Jones

One of my favorite authors, Diana Wynne Jones, died today.

I discovered her in my elementary school library, which had her Cristomanci series — Charmed Life was the first one I read.  It wasn’t the last.

When I fell in love with a beautiful animated movie called Howl’s Moving Castle, I didn’t know she’d written the original book, but it didn’t surprise me.  She might have written for a young audience, but she didn’t write down to her readers or pretend that bad things never happen.

The world is better for having had her in it.

Excuse me, please — I’ve got a sudden need for some Sudden Wild Magic.
