Fugue (fūg):
1. A musical composition in which a short melody or phrase is introduced by a single part or instrument and is successively taken up by additional instruments and developed by interweaving the parts.
2. A pathological state of altered consciousness in which an individual may act and wander around as though conscious though their behavior is not consciously directed.
Sarah has been walking around in a fugue state all day, and only just realized that the tune she’s been humming under her breath all day is from Bach’s Little Fugue in G-minor.
