As I’ve mentioned here before, I listen to music while I’m writing.
It’s not only a way to shut out the real world—or at least the part that’s under-ten years old—but a way to help me visualize the world or the people I’m trying to create.
To save time,* I have a ton of playlists. When I discover a song** that fits a character or a mood or a place, I add it to the appropriate list or lists.***
Among the moods I have on my laptop right now are rage, despair, love, strength, lust, death, fear, adrenaline,^ joy, and longing.^^

^^ And cleaning, which isn’t a mood at all, but is something I have to be in the mood to do. Lots of Black-Eyed Peas in that one.

I’m glad you like Music Monday so much. And I love that you get my musical obsession and have a healthy amount yourself. Awesome list. For your longing playlist, I thought of “All that and heaven too” by Florence + The Machine, if you haven’t heard it.
I love Music Mondays—you like the same types of music I do, but you know different musicians. It’s all good.

I’m pretty old school with my music: I listen mostly at work and do so with CDs or maybe Pandora. But I LOVE the idea of categorizing stuffy by mood. I’m going to suggest this to my two sons, who don’t have much spending money, for a Christmas gift idea. You know, somewhere along the lines of a CD for Mom When She’s Moody, Mom When She’s Merry, Mom When She’s Mad.
I’m thinking the Mom When She’s Moody may require a six-disc set though.
