From the drawer novel, another continuation—I swear there’s a plot in here, somewhere:

The explosion shuddered the glasscrete and rattled the doors, but that was all.

“You okay?” I asked the boy, who had gone silent, his blue eyes open wide.

“Maaaa-maaa!” he screamed. “Maaaa-maaa!”

A woman ran up, yanking a sullen older child along by one arm.  Close behind her was Frieda, the Children’s Supervisor, who looked exactly like Mrs. Santa Claus, right down to the jolly pink cheeks and the white hair braided into a bun—but her usual cheerful smile was absent, which meant she was seriously ticked.
