It’s one thing to make a parody of a popular song. It’s quite another to create a cover that transforms that song into something with melodic and emotional depths that the original wasn’t meant to have.
Ben Howard has managed it very nicely:
There’s something in Mr. Howard’s delivery that reminds me of Tracy Chapman—tone, resonance, delivery . . . I’m not sure. But I like it.
(I stole this from Jalisa Blackman’s last Music Monday—she’s introduced me to some amazing stuff)
That is brilliant. I didn’t recognize it at first. Yes, Tracy Chapman. It’s there.
Oh, good—I’m glad someone else heard it, too! 🙂
He’s really good! And I see what you mean about Chapman.
I’m trying to find more of his music—I wonder if that’s his usual style.
Another vote for Chapman—vindication! 🙂
Agree that he has made it something different and agree re Chapman. Thanks!
Changing it so much kind of reminds me of Alannis Morrisette’s parody of My Humps ….
Thank you. Downith! I haven’t heard Alannis Morrisette’s parody—I’ll look it up.
We saw some of the Men’s Gymnastics last night—how was it from your side?
Awesome!
So glad you liked this enough to post it! Share the wonder. It’s fun!
