Random Thursday: From the Library Files

Random Thursday (ˈrandəm ˈTHərzdā): the day on which Sarah plunks down all the odd bits and pieces she’s been sent by friends or has otherwise stumbled upon in an effort to avoid writing a real post, the assembly of which usually ends up taking twice as much time as sitting down and creating actual content.

The American Library Association is looking for stories about what libraries mean to those of us who use them.

If you use the library, please think about sharing your story here.

If you don’t use the library, please go use one right now, and write about the experience here.

If you aren’t in the vicinity of a US library right now, please go use yours and send a nice note to them anyway.

Librarians like that.

Thank you!

Full Metal Librarian

My friend Kev saw this and thought of me.

Full Metal Librarian

Such a sweetie.

Lego My Librarian

Lego recently came out with a librarian figure.

She’s . . . fairly standard.

And not outside the realm of possibility—I own those glasses, and wouldn’t mind that mug.*

Lego Librarian

Joe Hardenbrook, the awesome Mr. Library Dude, decided he wanted one that looked a little more like him, so he created this:

LibraryDude

And then he got to thinking . . . and ended up making a whole carousel of Lego librarian stereotypes.

Go take a look.  I’m kind of partial to Alternalibrarian, myself.

And this chick.

Xena Warrior Librarian

Bet her selection budget wasn’t cut this fiscal year . . .

Grammarian’s Revenge

indy, this one’s for you.

Internet Test

I’d also recommend this method for libraries with limited public workstations—
It’ll thin the waiting list, speed up the connections, and promote literacy!

I knew it!

Batlibrarian

Supercallifragments

Nick Bertke, aka Pogo, is known—or should be—for the mixes he creates out of his vast library (see what I did there?) of audioclips.

This one is made of sounds only found in the Mary Poppins movie.

I like it—pun totally intended.

I also like his Scoobystep, Bangarang, and Skynet Symphony.**

*The book title is an homage to Party Girl, the 1995 movie in which Parker Posey channels her inner librarian.  Eventually.   Along the way, a woman with interesting diction asks her for Origin of Species, and she fails to impress her supervisor by trying to direct the patron to the cooking magazines.  Eh, it happens.

**If you’ve got kids, you might want to watch Skynet first before you share—it was born out of  Terminator 3.  Just sayin’

  1. My favorite comment on the Pogo videos – because naturally I didn’t stop at the one you posted – “you literally hear music in everything…” And not just because the poster used “literally” correctly.
I mean it helped, sure, but that wasn’t the only reason. Mostly.
