Book Book Book Book, or, Why there is no Post Today

Book Explosion

When I sat down for Blog Time yesterday evening, I was attacked by my WIP last night.  So instead of prepping a post, I ended up writing seven pages, and it’s still got me.

I know this, because every post I attempted this morning ended up . . . segueing:

Sunny insisted on trying mouthwash for the first time last night. When I expressed my doubts, she informed me that she was almost seven, Mommy, and brushed aside my reminders that she had to this point considered all flavors of toothpaste that didn’t have bubblegum or sparkle in the name “too spicy.” Which reminds me of something one of my characters is about do, and I’d better just jot it down quickly before I forget, and oh, yeah, that’s good, too and book, book, book, book, book, book, book, book, oh COOL, hee, hee, hee, snicker, book, book, book, book, book, no no no no no NO, he’s the BOYFRIEND, yeah, fix that up there, just leave a note, write that on the board—no in red, where’s the red, no, wait, blue is for character quirks— book, book, book, book, book, book, book, book, book, book, book, book, book, book, characters development— whoops, I thought for sure they were more than friends, but maybe this other guy. . . how is that gonna . . . oh. OH! Book, book, book, book, book, book, book, book, book, book, book, book, book, better mark that line, it sucks, but It’ll do for now, book, book, book, book, book, book, book, book, book, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., OH, $#!%, I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE WRITING A BLOG POST, DANG IT.

I can’t really bring myself to regret this, because there is no rush like having a story move through your brain while you hold on for the ride and try not to get finger cramps, but it does mean that there won’t be a post today.

Tune in tomorrow, when I might finish that mouthwash post.  After I clean the bathroom mirror.

Meanwhile, go read Lyra’s post, in which her son reveals the Secrets to Being a WriterI’ve got the first three down.

(book, book, book, book, book, book, book, book, book, book . . .)

      • Sometimes it is inconvenient, Sarah, especially when I get ideas when I’m working…here’s a line from my bio in “Mr. Short, Dark…& Funny”: For example, I almost always get ideas when I’m at work and I’m writing work-related information in my notebook (see? I still don’t leave home without a pen and notebook) and I jot down a line of dialogue I heard that I want to use. That’s when one of my bosses decides that every move I make, he or she will be watching me.

  1. I find it hilarious that you post even when you claim to not have a post.

And what is it about seven year olds thinking everything is so dang spicy. It’s peppermint, for God’s sake, not tabasco!

Talk to me!
