Last week, Jack asked if he could take a pic of Dennis, for reasons that the eight-sentence limit didn’t make clear.
We’re skipping over a couple of sentences that inform us that Jack and Dennis are cousins, and that the Riordan family has been blessed with dimples, as long as they show teeth when they smile.
“Yeah, this’ll work.”
Dennis scowled and sat up. “I told you, I’m not modeling for SwimSation Gear.”
“I know. And even though I don’t understand how you could deny the agency, and by extension the legacy of your family, a slam dunk OBIE award, I respect your decision. Besides, we can’t afford to lose you—no one else in this place works through lunch.”
“So what’s going on?”
“Kirsten’s sister is sending wedding prep photos to their mother and I thought she might want to complete the set of groomsmen.”

And it’s also a way to make sure Viv knows he wasn’t part of not-Renee’s unprovoked cattiness a few hours earlier.
I know what I said about my guilt over objectifying my characters, but I’d just like to take a moment and savor the idea of an outdoor swimwear campaign featuring Dennis . . . in swimwear . . .
Thanks. I needed that.

Yummy picture, Sarah. Wow–weddings are so much more complicated than they were when I got married. Nice details.
Thank the US Marine Corps, Nancy. 😀
And yes, I think weddings are getting waaaay out of hand these days.
Oh nice picture indeed. Now I see why he wanted to take his photo. I also agree with Nancy’s comment about weddings being so complicated these days.
Yep, he’s using his cousin to apologize without apologizing! 🙂
“…deny the agency…” Can we say “guilt trip well done?” Great 8!
I didn’t put it in there, but I’m pretty sure Dennis rolled his eyes somewhere during that sentence, Gem. 🙂
And thanks!
Haha! Oh, that Jack is a cunning one! Nicely done, Sarah! 🙂
He is! Thanks, Teresa! 🙂
Well, yes, that sounds delicious, I think I’m gonna go grab my camera now and come your way! 😀 Excellent snippet!
It does, doesn’t it? Head over to Wikimedia Commons—there are a lot of very not bad men over there to choose from!
And thanks!
Nice way of relaying information — and of Jack finding an excuse to see Viv again?
Well, I thought so, Paula! 😉
Ha! Very cute. I love this story it’s so fun, all due to your writing style. 🙂 I can’t imagine what mom would think getting a picture like that of a groomsman. Too funny.
The Murders of Polly Frisch
Thank you, Cindy!
My mother would love it. 😀
Oh, sure, just for the wedding prep. LOL Great snippet, Sarah. 🙂
Uh-huh. 😉
Thanks, Siobhan!
LOL. “No one else around here works through lunch.” Really funny detail that tells us a lot about Dennis. Excellent job with slipping that in there!
Thanks, Karysa. I love Dennis—more than Jack, even. That could be a problem . . .
Dennis the workaholic with dimples and sexy abs… : ) Me likey!
He’s not HizzzNibz, Millie, but he’ll do! 😀
Great photo and great snippet.
Thanks, Tina!
What? Works through lunch? lol Wow, he must get out to play. Love the photo!!
Once in a while, Karen, but not during work hours! 😀
Enjoyed the snippet, thoroughly enjoying this story! Excellent excerpt!
Thanks, Veronica. 🙂
Cute snippet. Nice job!
Thanks, Sandra!
Delightful, pic hot and dialogue cool. Super eight.
Thank you, Charmaine. 🙂
Does he work through lunch every day? Watching his weight?
David ditched him for Kirsten, or he probably would’ve gone out for lunch, but, yeah, he gets lost in his work sometimes—as do we all. 🙂
Well now. That picture is quite nice.
‘Tis indeed, Elaine! 🙂
SwimSation? Oh, my, that name is cheesy and perfect.
I wonder if Dennis would prefer being a model over being a groomsman in *that* wedding, which promises to be entertainingly horrifying. I notice he hasn’t been given a chance to protest, yet.
It took me three tries to come up with something that hadn’t already been used. I’m crossing my fingers it stays that way!
Dennis likes weddings and groomsmen don’t have to do much, anyway. He’ll be fine. 🙂
*blinks innocently* I think I need pictures of the groomsmen as well, if they look like him! Fun snippet! Thanks.
So do I, Dianne . . . so do I! 😀
Thanks!
I don’t think I’ve ever heard of wedding prep photos, though admittedly I’d far prefer a very small, modest, inexpensive ceremony if I ever get engaged again and actually go through with wedding planning and an actual wedding next time.
They do exist, especially in these days of ubiquitous camera-phones—but in this case, the mother of the bride is in Florida and doesn’t want to miss a single second. So she’s making Viv record it all. 😀
My second wedding is going to be far different from my first. I should probably mention this to my husband. 😉
