Random Thursday: Random Stylings and Reversible Monkeycakes

Random Thursday (ˈrandəm ˈTHərzdā): the day on which Sarah plunks down all the odd bits and pieces she’s been sent by friends or has otherwise stumbled upon this week in an effort to avoid writing a real post, the assembly of which usually ends up taking twice as much time as sitting down and creating actual content.

But not this one.

Tufted Coquette

This is a Tufted Coquette.
There is nothing else it could be.

I’m still not sure it wasn’t photoshopped out of several different birds and a drag show . . .

If Steampunk Trek fanfic wasn’t already a thing
(and you know it is)
these would be the inspiration that launched
a thousand new Ao3 accounts.

Maybe they will anyway—the needs of the many and all that.

This waterfall graphic print is in a train station in Japan.

It is the awesome—especially when two small children walk up to it.

Monkeycakes!

The girls and I had pancakes for dinner the other day
and I used Jane’s batter squirter dispenser.

I’m getting pretty good at squirrels,
so I decided to stretch my repertoire
and made a happy monkey.

Monkeycake2

When I showed the picture to my husband,
he said, “Wow!  You’re really getting good at that!”

I was pretty pleased, before I realized that he was looking at it upside-down.

Monkeycake1

But then I thought,
it takes some serious mad skillz
to make a reversible happy monkey pancake
without even knowing it.

I have no explanation for why all this stuff ended up in my Random Thursday Stuff folder.

But I don’t have an apology for it either.

When it comes to Star Wars, I will trade laser blasts and light speed for the laws of physics every single time.

But I still really need this on  tee-shirt.

I Love Tolkien Fan Vids—But I mustn’t get into the Hobbit.

And this is why:

I laughed, ya’ll.   I laughed so hard I sprained what small amount of  dignity I have left.

Someone found this for me on Geek Universe.

Thank you, someone!

Cutest Team Building Moment EVER

I traced it back to its artist, and lost myself in
Skottie Young’s deviantart playground for an indecent amount of time.

I like his art and I love his sense of humor.

Turns out, Mt. Young’s been drawing for Marvel for more than a decade,
(including some of my favorite issues—I have got to start paying closer attention)

and

FORTUNATELY, THE MILK!

I haven’t been this fansquee over an artist since Quentin Blake.
And Shel Silverstein.  And James C. Christensen.

(and maybe that Mike Allegra guy)

Seriously, go take a look at Mr. Young’s stuff.

It’s fantastic.

The Answer is actually Forty-Three

But how many of those cartoon theme songs can you identify?

The list is on YouTube, if you want to see what you missed.

If you didn’t miss any of them . . .
Maybe you should step away from the screen for a while?  ‘Cause you’ve been away a long time.

Don’t Forget!

I issued a Vonnegut Challenge yesterday!

Write a secret poem, tear it up, and send me a pic of the pieces
(or a link or a tweet or a Facebook holler—whatever)

for a chance to win the regular-sized CafePress mug of your choice.

Limericks Mug

You have until tomorrow midnight!

Best.  Book Trailer Ever.

So  Neil Gaiman, right?

Wrote a new kids’ book, okay?

About a Dad telling the story of how he went to the store to get milk for his kids . . . and ran into  a little trouble on the way home.

It’s illustrated by the fabulous Skottie Young., as is the trailer.

And I can’t get the &%$%ing embed code to work.

So click the image to see the Awesome.

For Mom

Who not only gave me my love of—and vast collection of—Star Trek novels, but once had a raccoon living in her house for nearly a week, until she realized that their new cat wasn’t the one yanking down her drapes, crapping on the carpet, and eating his bodyweight in kitty crunchies.

And that my nephew didn’t have a life-sized raccoon puppet . . .

For bonus points, it’s an honest to pete PSA.

You have been warned.

Aaaand there’s your brain’s background music for the next week—
especially if your kids see this, because you know they won’t stop singing it until you’re rocking in a corner begging for someone to play REM’s “Stand,” to knock the damn thing loose.

Make it so . . . with an extra shot

It boggles the mind that the barista had to put his name  on the cup.

Use the Forte, Luke

And because I dare not disturb the balance of the Multiverse, here’s something for those who follow the path of the Jedi—
or at least those of you aren’t yet following Lindsey Stirling and Peter Hollens’ YouTube channels.

If you’re not following them  . . . Why not?

Something Fourthful

First, a gentle reminder from your Emperor:

And a very quick reminder from the rest of us:*

Except maybe it should have ended like this?

And fourthly, this one again, because it’s just that awesome:

May the Fourth be with you, my friends—
Right now, in this galaxy right here.

Random Thursday: “HIchop!” “Gesundheit!”

I’m home sick today with a sore throat and the general muscle aches and fever that have been going around the library, so if things get even more surreal around here than the usual Thursday oeuvre, that’s my excuse.

I’ll probably be fine by tomorrow, but just in case, does anyone know if the burning of sage wards off strep throat?

First, a Poll

If you read this blog through a feed, could I ask you to drop in and take a look at what I’ve done with the place?

While I loved the old theme, it simply wasn’t wide enough for some of the things I wanted to do, so I searched for a couple of days until I found this one.  It has most of the features I wanted, but it might be a little . . . too much?

Whaddaya think?

Be honest—I can take it.

Suggestions are also welcome, though mean ones will be severely mocked.

But Jen Usellis can:

Yes. Yes, it is.
